Connecting your accounts

Updated

Connect your social accounts and we'll read your recent posts to fill in your business info. For the places you also post to, we take care of posting for you: your approved posts go out on their own, at their time, and we show you how each one did.

These can be connected:

  • Instagram: Feed post, Carousel, Reel, Story
  • Facebook: Photo post, Text post, Reel
  • TikTok: Video
  • YouTube: Short
  • X: Post
  • LinkedIn: Text post, Image post

The rest are always posted by hand. See Website & socials.

Connecting an account

You connect accounts on Website & socials, the first part of your business info. You can connect an account whether or not you post there.

  1. Open Business info from the menu, then Website & socials. Each place that can be connected is listed under Social media, with whether it's connected.
  2. Choose Connect next to the channel (for example Connect Instagram).
  3. Read the short notes on what the platform will ask, then choose Continue to that platform.
  4. Sign in there and allow access. You'll come back to Website & socials with the account connected and everything you'd ticked or typed still there.

The platform's screens will name Post for Me. That's the service IndieAM publishes through, so it's expected.

Here's what each platform's screens ask, in short:

  • Instagram: Only professional Instagram accounts (business or creator) can be published to. If you're already signed in to Instagram in this browser, that's the account that will be connected. If Instagram shows you its home feed after you sign in, come back here and connect again.
  • Facebook: Facebook shows about four screens. Tick your business's Page, and its business. Facebook will say IndieAM can manage your business portfolio: that's the permission it asks for before it lets anyone post to a portfolio's Page.
  • TikTok: Leave every switch on, so IndieAM can post for you.
  • YouTube: Google leaves every box unticked: tick "Select all". Choose the account your channel belongs to. It may be listed as a Brand Account.
  • X: Tick "I trust this app" before you press Authorize.
  • LinkedIn: You'll choose which of your company pages IndieAM posts to afterwards.

If the platform lets you choose more than one account, we'll ask which one to use: one account per channel. If signing in takes too long, just start again.

Connected the wrong account? Disconnect it, sign out of that platform in your browser, and connect again.

Only an Owner can connect or disconnect accounts. Everyone on the team can see which accounts are connected.

If you haven't connected yet

Posts for a place that isn't connected are yours to post. We'll remind you where it matters: a post says Connect Instagram (for example) next to "You post this yourself", and while approved posts are coming up there, your home says how many will need posting by hand. If you'd rather post one yourself on purpose, choose I'll post this myself and we won't mention it.

What IndieAM can do with it

IndieAM reads the words of your last 20 posts to fill in your business info, publishes the posts you approve to the places you post to, and reads the numbers for your posts. Connecting a new account doesn't change your business info by itself: tap Read my website and posts again on Products & services or Voice when you'd like us to use it. You sign in on the platform itself, so we never see your password, and you can disconnect any time.

When an account needs reconnecting

Sometimes a platform stops letting IndieAM post: a password change, a permission removed, or access that expired. When that happens, we'll email the Owners, show it on the home, and hand that channel's upcoming posts over to you to post by hand.

To reconnect, open Website & socials and choose Reconnect next to the channel (for example Reconnect Instagram).

Already posted one yourself? Mark it I've posted this before you reconnect. Once you reconnect, any post whose time is still ahead goes back to publishing itself, so one you put up by hand but didn't mark could go out twice.

Disconnecting

On Website & socials, choose Disconnect next to the channel. Before you confirm, we'll tell you how many approved posts will then need posting by hand.
